OH MY GOSH Y’ALL this is like the most simple and beautiful MAGICAL REALISM FLYING CAR METAPHOR, it is GRADUATION at rydell high they are all GOING OFF INTO THE WORLD to become better or worse or at the very least more-real versions of themselves, this magical time has come to an end, shmpbopshoowaddawadda etc, but for DANNY and SANDY (our heroes) they are able to surpass the mundane/disappointing nature of graduation vis a vis THEIR LOVE, just as their love tragically does not allow them to rise above trivial and demeaning high school social demarcations and stereotypes it DOES allow them to figuratively RISE ABOVE the pressures and expectations of the real world, you know this because danny got a letterman’s jacket for sandy just as sandy got all sexed up for danny, they are both willing to make this sacrifice and therefore they are no longer contained to rydell high grounds and as everyone else must walk away they are allowed to fly into the clouds of dreams and acceptance and lust, literally leaving all their friends behind on the earth but waving merrily like SO LONG ASSHOLES, our love transcends and yet embodies graduation, we must leave all this behind and fly
